A team of Houston medical experts didn't have any other way to save Vetter's life. They rushed him into his bubble immediately after his birth, correctly assuming he suffered from a rare inherited condition called severe combined immunodeficiency. The experts also assumed they could cure him, and they made no plans for what to do if they couldn't.
